Strip 3:   First dog: But why doesn't he react at all?

 Just because John is from Crete, 

if someone doesn't call him "Tough guy"*

 he doesn't understand that he is addressing him.

*It is a Greek stereotype to call

 the inhabitants of Crete "Tough guys"
