Many people believed that among the immature and
reckless figures currently leading the United States, there was at least one
adult: Marco Rubio. That illusion,
however, did not last long.
During his recent
appearance at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, reports suggest that the U.S.
Secretary of State warned his counterparts that the situation in the Strait of
Hormuz would be very difficult to restore even after the war. According to
these reports, Iran is unlikely to step back from the tolls it has imposed on
the passage.
The same sources say
that his counterparts looked at him with surprise and confusion, struggling to
understand whether these officials are aware that their own actions have
contributed to the very consequences Rubio was describing.
“Marco, we expected
the United States to take a tougher stance on Russia, but instead you opened a
front with Iran. None of this makes sense,” the EU’s High Representative for
Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, is reported
to have told him. According to the same leaked information, this was one of the
mildest remarks he received.
